Continuing with my theme of posting older mixes that I still enjoy, here is a mix from Brooklyn based DJ Benny B. This is a French touch/disco/filter house or whatever you want to call it mix that is upbeat and flows seamlessly. He more recently came out with a vol. 2, but I like this one so much better. This mix is pretty old, more than a year, but it is still one of my favorite mixtapes and I listen to it just about every week. It’s a smooth blend of Hip-hop, latin, afro, disco, and funk. London based visual FX company D.A.D.D.Y. recently finished their work on the video for One Month Off by Bloc Party. The video updates classic stop-motion fairy tales with use of 3D tanks and stock explosions. Its a pretty cool twist on familiar stories, and its interesting to see how they treated their work to blend in with the old footage.

So, I’ll admit it. I’ve been listening to a lot of disco music lately. A Lot.
It just blends so well into funk, hip-hop and house music. I’ve really been trying to get my hands of as much disco and funk music as possible, so I was pretty excited when I saw that DJ Pump just put out this 80s funk boogie mixtape.

DJ Benzi and Plain Pat just put together this mixtape of Kanye West remixes. It’s pretty good and can stand on its own even if you’ve never heard the originals. It’s also good because they released the mixtape as individual tracks, so you can play them out or just skip over the songs that don’t knock as hard as the others.

Fear & Loathing In Hunts Vegas.

Ever since I made the switch from a vinyl to digital music collection I’ve been very particular, maybe even anal, about properly tagging my MP3s.

I have thousands of songs and I often browse them by album, genre, rating, artist name, track number, year published, etc..
Whether its downloading mp3s from the web, ripping old vinyl records, importing CDs or trading mixtapes, it gets really hard to keep all of your songs properly tagged. This makes searching to find the song I want really frustrating or near impossible.

I’ve used a lot of mp3 tagging & library cleanup utilities in the past, but nothing thats ever been really easy, stable, or successful.

I finally found a program that does a suitable job, it’s called TuneUp.

The free trial lets you tag up to 500 songs and will recover album for up to 50 albums. I’ve already used up my limit, but this program has exceeded my expectations with almost 100% accuracy. It automagically fills in all of the blank fields and allows you to also go through and edit each song individually.
It’s really easy to use, but I’d like to see a feature that allows you to preview a song before you commit to tagging it. [See comments]
I think that the Mac version is still a little buggy, but overall its definitely worth it.

There is also another feature, that I have yet to explore, for real-time concert updates. This checks all of the artists in your library against ticketing databases so you’ll always be updated on when your favorite artists (or at least an artist in your library) comes to town.
