The Unfinished Swan

4 May

The Unfinished Swan is a first-person painting game set in an entirely white world. Players can splatter paint to help them find their way through an unusual garden.

It has not yet been released but an absolutely beautiful tech demo has found its way onto the internet. The game maker, Giant Sparrow, describes themselves as a company that is focused on creating surreal experiences people have never had before – making the world a stranger, more interesting place.

The tech demo reminds me of the old and much beloved game Myst, where the user has to navigate through a scene and solve puzzles, but without quite knowing why. While visually stunning the video doesn’t hint much at the story line or characters, leaving the viewer in awe of the mysterious and minimal environment. Also I’m curious about the game-play itself. I think it would be interesting if the player had a limited amount of paint and had to use it strategically to navigate the world.
